What does counselling offer and who is it for?

Counselling offers a safe space where you can talk things through, feel listened to and understood. No issues are too small, whatever you need to talk about, if it’s important to you it’s important to me. Sometimes the smallest of issues can be the key to your goals.

Counselling and psychotherapy is available for people who feel dissatisfied with how they feel and want to talk things through and gain an understanding of how to make positive choices and feel good about themselves and life around them.

Counselling can help if:-

  • You are feeling stuck and not sure what to do
  • You have recently been bereaved, or experienced a loss of some kind
  • A past event is niggling away at you
  • You are feeling stressed or anxious
  • Poor self image, low self esteem, or lacking in confidence
  • You want to make significant life changes
  • Maybe you use alcohol to self medicate and make those unpleasant feelings go away.
  • You have been diagnosed with depression
  • You have a sense of loss of direction.
  • A relationship feels unfulfilling
  • You are going through a divorce or separation
  • Feeling unsettled, or uncertain about your sexual identity

BUT MOST OF ALL YOU JUST WANT TO FEEL THAT YOU CAN HAVE SPACE TO THINK OUT LOUD AND TALK THINGS THROUGH IN A CONFIDENTIAL AND TRUSTED ENVIRONMENT.

By talking things over and making sense of life experiences individuals and couples can learn to understand themselves and make the changes you want in your life.

Counselling and psychotherapy helps you to process: What you do and why you do it. Through therapy you can revisit repeating patterns, break cycles of behaviour that are no longer helpful to you and live your life in control and empowered.

Counselling and psychotherapy is a process which can help you to identify the “if’s, maybe’s, could be’s ” reduce the feelings of “being out of control” and the symptoms of anxiety and guilt, leaving you feeling positive, free of these negative feelings and ready to embrace your life. Remember we can not recreate the” what if’s “.

Through the therapeutic relationship you can unpick difficulties that feel stuck and free yourself to do something different. Sometimes we feel upset or experience feeling down or a low mood and struggle to untangle the “whys? and hows?” we feel so uncomfortable and unsettled.

Therapy offers you an opportunity to improve your mind and mood and, by untangling those struggles and piecing it all together, you can form a more positive quality of life and create an understanding of your unique process.

I have seen Julia for two separate blocks of counselling divided by a couple of years. Both times I have found Julia to be understanding and non judgemental.

 

Each time I’ve had counselling, Julia has understood my circumstances. During sessions I rarely have to repeat stories or remind her about details and circumstances as she remembers.

 

She always checks what I want from the counselling and how we’d know when this is achieved. Not only this but she always asks whether I’d like to come back, so I am in control of the counselling, what I get from it and when I have it (if I decide to have it.)

 

Julia will challenge my ways of thinking but not in a judgemental way, but in a way which makes me think about myself and thought patterns. She helps me to understand myself and my actions.

 

What’s more, Julia gives me confidence in myself and my feelings, allowing me to express myself fully.
